Qatar’s national holidays are also great occasions of celebration with a range of special activities organized at different locations around the country. Besides the major religious holidays, most notably Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha with their own nationwide festivals (see above), public holidays are often marked by special cultural events, fireworks displays and other activities usually suitable for the entire family, including children.

The most noteworthy of these are National Day on December 18 each year, where a series of impressive events take over large parts of the city, and National Sports Day, a public holiday, held on the second Tuesday of February.

This last event also sees thousands of people take part in fitness events – running, cycling, walking and others – across the country.
