Despite the growth and diversification of Qatar’s international tourism markets in recent years, the neighbouring GCC countries retain their important position as the country’s leading source of visitors, thanks to close proximity, ease of access and language and cultural affinity.
Recognizing these factors, together with the high level of pre-existing awareness and familiarity about Qatar, QTA’s activities within the GCC are targeted more directly towards the consumer, through staging mall promotions. The emphasis of these initiatives is firmly on Qatar’s attractions as a convenient destination offering unrivalled wholesome family entertainment in a familiar and comfortable cultural and social environment.
These regional promotions are often based around attracting regional visitors to the many festivals and events taking place in Qatar. GCC visitors are not unduly concerned by climatic considerations, which is immensely important to QTA’s efforts to help boost the hotel sector’s occupancy during the slower summer season, and promotions for events such as the month-long annual Qatar Summer Festival have proved highly successful in attracting GCC visitors.
